# OpenTor > OpenTor is a public HTTP gateway that opens Tor v3 .onion addresses in any modern browser. Paste an onion address and OpenTor routes the request through Tor without requiring Tor Browser. ## What it does OpenTor accepts a v3 .onion address, fetches the page through a local Tor SOCKS5 connection, and rewrites the response so links, forms, redirects, cookies, CSS, and common JavaScript navigation stay inside a gateway path. It is a convenience gateway for access, not an anonymity service. ## Use it - Landing page: https://tor.glob.qzz.io/ - Direct URL: https://tor.glob.qzz.io/tor/<56-character-base32>.onion/ - Form fallback: https://tor.glob.qzz.io/go?address= - The gateway strips http:// and https:// from pasted onion URLs. - Example: https://tor.glob.qzz.io/tor/<56-character-base32>.onion/login ## API - GET /tor// — proxy an onion service. - GET /go?address=
— normalize a pasted address and redirect with 303. - GET /healthz — gateway, database, and Tor SOCKS5 health. - GET /api/v1/onions — known onions and aggregate statistics. - GET /api/v1/onions/ — per-onion statistics. - GET /api/v1/stats — global statistics. All JSON endpoints use the envelope {"status":"success|error","message":"...","data":...}. ## Privacy and limits - The gateway can see the client IP address, the onion address, and requested paths. - The gateway does not forward the client IP address to the onion service. - The onion service sees traffic from a Tor exit and can still fingerprint the browser with JavaScript. - Only v3 .onion addresses are accepted. Clearnet, private-network, and v2 onion addresses are rejected. - WebSockets, some single-page apps, Service Workers, CAPTCHAs, and sites that require their original origin may not work. - Large or slow downloads can hit the gateway request timeout. - OpenTor is not a VPN, is not Tor Browser, and is not affiliated with The Tor Project. ## Indexing Only this landing page is intended for search engine indexing. Proxied onion pages are served with X-Robots-Tag: noindex, nofollow and /tor/ is disallowed in robots.txt. ## Version 1.1.0
